In Task Manager, in the Details tab, the System Idle Process CPU time seems broken. Two problems:

1. It doesn't start counting from zero until Task Manager is opened. All other processes start counting from zero at system startup time. Also System Idle Process did correctly start from zero at startup in Server 2008 R2.

2. It stops dead at zero CPU usage after approximately 7 minutes of CPU time (7:09 on a Hyper-V host with 8 processors, 7:08 on a VM with 8 virtaul processors). So it stops in under a minute with 8 processors.

The System Idle Process CPU usage and total CPU time are useful metrics to understand average CPU load on the system. They worked in Server 2008 R2, and seem broken in Server 2012 RC.

printer stopped when i switched to windows 8.

error message telling me print spooler is not functioning

unable to get it to function...every probram indicates that printer is working properly, yet it shows that I have no printer installed and my printer cannot be found or activated no matter what I do.

Hi,

I have 2 VM connecter on the same virtual switch.

For the First VM,  network adapter is configured with "–PortMirroring Source" parameter

For the Second  network adapter is configured with "–PortMirroring Destination" parameter

On the second, i have installed Netmon 3.4. When i monitor trafic, i cna't see any packet from VM 1.

What is the mistake ??

Hi,

I am trying out Aventail VPN client in windows 8 x86 PC.

After 1st time installation, it works fine. Once disconnect and trying to reconnect it fails in PPP negotiation phase. If i will uninstall and reinstall its again working for the 1st time. I have captured the pockets in both the working and non working condition but dont know how to upload the same here. Just attaching  the screen shot from NetMon.

I found that it fails in LCP negotiations phase.

My understanding is if it works for the 1st time it should work for the consecutive logins as the same code is running . Is OS is stopping some thing some where. I have tried with disabling firewall and antivirus as well but no luck.

Please let me know what else i need to do to make it work? Let me know if any one need the pocket capture.

I was using this OS fine, then after a reboot it just hangs on the windows logo with the circles going around.  Nothing had changed before the time of the reboot.  I tried starting form "last known good configuration" but didn't help.  Only thing I have installed on this machine is Hyper V stuff.  There was some recommendation to disable USB 3, but my computer doesn't have USB 3.

Any ideas?

Hi,

I was trying to upgrade from windows 2008 r2 sp1 DC to windows 2012. Once the installation is complete the system boots with black screen with a mouse cursor and stays like that. It does not display anything. I need to rollback the installation...

Any help would be appreciated

Hi,

With one Window server 2012 Standard activated license, I will get 2 VMs. So is there a limit with Windows Server 2012 standard license I can stack and the the number of VMs I can create on one server or across servers (virtual environment). Consider that all Windows server 2012 standard licenses are activated. If there is no limit on VM creation by add Standard license then why did Microsoft come with Data center licenses with unlimited VMs.

How does the standard license work on Vmware environment. Is there a limit on the number for VMs that we can create.

Please advise me.

Can Intel Core 2 Duo run Windows 8 and does it fulfils  all the requirements required for Windows 8 i.e.,PAE, NX AND SSE2?

I've just installed server 2012 inside a hyper-v on windows 8, and I've installed the new de duplication feature.

But once I go to the disk manager the option to configure deduplication is greyed out, why is this?
Is this a feature which doesn't work for the C drive or is it because I'm using a virtual machine or is there some other reason?

We also encounter performance problems with storage pools.

The RC is somewhat faster than the CP version.

Hardware: Intel S1200BT (test) motherboard with LSI 9200-8e SAS 6Gb/s HBA connected to 12 ST91000640SS disks. Heavy problems with “Bursts”.

Using the ARC 1320IX-16 HBA card is somewhat faster and looks more stable (less bursts).

Inserting an ARC 1882X RAID card increases speed with a factor 5 – 10.

Hence hardware RAID on the same hardware is 5 – 10 times faster!

We noticed that the “Recourse Monitor” becomes unstable (irresponsive) while testing.

There are no heavy processor loads while testing.

I installed windows server and when it booted up all that showed up was a blank screen with a dos window. I can not figure out how to set it up. there is nothing else and i have tried to reboot and that is all that pops up after i login. I have no idea how to remote access it or get a domain name to access it

Help Please....

I've tried UNSUCCESSFULLY installing every eval copy of Server 2012 because ea version requires a Product Key...of which I can't seem to locate.  Does anyone have a workable product key for any Server 2012 version?

well . previously ( on 2008 R2 ). that small server ( core I3 2130/8gb ram / 3x 1tb )  worked as - network router  ( NAT + VPN ) and FILE server . after upgrade to 2012 std . that roles become COMPLETLY UNUSABLE .

when i read or write something in SMB share on that server with RRAS enabled . server ram constantly LEAK  ( all available 8 gb ) . till server become completely unresponsible . all installed drivers = win8 sign , nothing else installed as well . even no antivirus . and that leak . i may complyteley say -

1.leak start AFTER ENABLING  RRAS .with  RRAS disabled all normal.

2.leak os permanent . and does not showed under resource manager

is there any solution or way to research ? or only downgrage ?

We have several virtual Lab servers running Windows Server 2012, fresh install.

On all these servers we are unable to add any roles or features using the server manager (when I use Powershell it works fine). It happens on both a local and on remote servers. No matter which role or feature you try, we started out installing RDS, but also installing a simple telnet client fails.

The most frustrating part is that it does not give any error or something, not even in EventViewer.  Sometimes you just get a red cross saying Failed, sometimes you get a message "Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown.

The VM's are all on hyper-V 3.0 hosts, also running Server 2012. On those hosts, who where installed from the same ISO, it is no problem installing any roles or features. Already re-installed the OS on the 2 servers, to no avail. Als providing an alternative source path doesn't make any difference.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Reader application has abnormal behavior with multiple monitor configuration. Dragging the application from one monitor to another does not work properly. The original monitor starts to blink (the reader application does not vanish). The application remains visible in both monitors while blinking in the first one.

Hi,

When I try to add roles or features to my Windows Server 2012 Standard server through the GUI the wizard fails with an Out of Memory exception.

Eventviewer doen's show anyhting specific. I've tried repairing .NET and reinstalling the OS but the error persists.

Not sure where to look for next.

I have recently installed a new server that is running Windows Server 2012.  Nobody is making a backup solution that works with Server 2012 yet.  I have a free upgrade to Backup Exec 2012 R2 when it is released. (they tell me it is supposed to be released on Monday.)  So I'm waiting patiently, but for now I was just going to use the Windows Server Backup feature to back up my volumes and system state to a network location.  The network location is an older server that has an LTO 3 tape drive. Obviously the backup would then be backed up again on the LTO-3 tape.  However, I can't seem to get a successful backup of the server.  It will start off fine but then about half way through thte backup it stops.  And I get an error message that says "Error: the specified network name is no longer available."  I can't seem to figure out what is going on.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello

im trying to get my remote apps workings, all server roles install fine and the app publishes ok, however i noticed that when i launch the app externally i get an error because it is displaying the local server name, we are using our wild card ssl for the apps how do i change this?

We recently deployed an RDS server running Server 2012 Standard. It runs well with one exception. When a client logs in (clients are running either Windows 7 or Windows 8), the login usually is delayed for 45 sec - 1 min during the part where the message is displayed "Applying Group Printers Policy...". There are occasions where the login loads that GPP just as fast as the other policies though that's unusual.

When the RDS server ran Server 2008 R2, this never happened. What is it in Server 2012 that would cause this delay? I once had a 2008 non-R2 server (not an RDS) that had this same delay. There was a hotfix (KB973772) for Vista/2008 that resolved it but the hotfix is for 32-bit systems only.
