Server 2012 Replica Snapshots

$

I have installed Windows Server 2012 Datacenter on two servers with Hyper-V 3.0.  One is my Replica Source and one is my Replica Destination.  They are connected over a VPN from two different sites with a 10Mbit pipe.  My first attempt at replication failed, so I began troubleshooting the issue.  I found DNS and static IP address issues which I have resolved.  During the troubleshooting I removed replication from the two guest VM's residing on the Replica Source server.

My issues is that I cannot get rid of the replica snapshots that have been created from the failed first attempt at replication.  I have not reconfigured replication as of yet.  Will these go away once the new replication is configured or is there another option/method to remove them?

Thanks in advance...

HI ,

after downloading the server 2012 trial ISO from this site I tried to install the server 2012 trial on a virtual machine.

i'm using VM ware workstation 9.0.0 build-812388

After i select server 2012 standard with GUI and i click next, an error message appears

"Windows cannot findt the Microsoft software license terms" Make sure your sources are valid and restart the installtion. "

the same thing happens when I install the VM machine from the DVD

The virtual PC then restarts and the process is repeated the installation worked fine from a DVD onto a test PC

OK I believe I messed up.

I installed the role Network Policy and Access Services on one of our production servers and it locked down and will not allow any network traffic in our out.

I have since removed the role but still cannot get any traffic in our out.

What else do I need to change to bring it back to a normal file and print server.

thank you in advance... please hurry..

Unable to modify Direct Access config

I've been playing around with setting up Direct Access with Server 2012.  I made a change to allow Windows 7 clients and selected an intermediate certificate authority.  I think I picked an incorrect intermediate CA...but now I cannot change the configuration.  When I launch the Remote Access Management Console, I get the message "Settings for the server myserver.mydomain.local cannot be retrieved.  The cmdlet did not run as expected."  I cannot modify any settings to fix the problem and cannot remove the role since the configuration exists.  Seems like it is just stuck.  Suggestions?

I need some help with setting VPN up in Windows server 2012.

Hey guys,

I am trying to set up VPN to my server at home.  I am following this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qbpxKRb-94 .  I am at the point in where he talks about setting up a static IP or DHCP (3:30), my question what is going on here when doing this.  If I need to use static do I use my host address for my network at home or what do I do.

Whose dumb idea was it to put the Metro UI on Server 2012?

How utterly ridiculous this is. Giant step backward.

I do not need "apps" or a tablet user interface running on my servers. My god this is terrible, and I hope it's removed before RTM...

Are User CALs Proportionate to Physical Servers?

$

I believe this should be a straight forward question to answer, but given how cryptic Microsoft's licensing is, maybe it won't be.. Anyway.. Here is my situation..

I have 70 users and 70 Server 2008 User CALs, I also have 10 servers running Server 2003 and Server 2008.

With that said, do my CALs and Servers need to be proportionate to one another?

See Below:

Which Licensing scenario is accurate according to my situation:

  • 70 Users + 10 Servers = 700 CALs (70 User CALs for each server)

OR

  • 70 Users + 10 Servers = 70 CALs (obviously if my server OS's are 2008 and 2003 then my CALs should all be 2008).

Thanks!

Server 2012 using 99% CPU

I have recently upgraded a system that was running Server 2008 R2 to Server 2012 standard with the GUI.

The Hyper-V roll is also installed.

The issue is, the system is running at 99% CPU all the time at the host.  The system ran fine under Server 2008 but with 2012 anything I do is VERY slow.  The Hyper-V Management console is taking 25% CPU, Desktop Windows Manager is taking 22%...

This seems VERY odd as the system was running Server 2008 R2 with the same roles and in fact more..

System Specs:

SuperMicro X7DBN
2 x XEON 5140
LSA 8888ELP RAID
32GB DDR2 FBDIMM RAM

Any help would be MUCH appreciated as this was going to be a Hyper-V migration and its not going well in test!

Thanks!

Data recovery from storage spaces

Hello all

After crashing my storage spaces parity disk and waiting several days i'll see same picture - disks constantly active and doing something, probably recovery/rebuild running in the background. But I still can't access corrupted virtual disk using explorer or any other tool. My config is following:

1 Storage spaces pool from 3 x 2TB drives

Data virtual disk - 5 TB (which i can't access, parity configuratoin (like RAID 5))

Temp virtual disk - 5 TB (originally created from 2 x 2TB disks, simple configuratoin (like RAID 0))

Temp virtual disk - 1 TB (created after i was added third disk, simple configuratoin ((like RAID 0))

My systems is stop responding when 3 copy processes was running

1) From external hard drive to Data disk

2) From drive C to Data disk

3) from Old Temp disk (from two disks) to new one

For now i can't access Data disk and thinking how to recover data using third party tools, so the qustion about block size used by parity spaces, is it 32 or 64k?

Or may be in RC version of Windows Server we'll have more control or at least progress bar how long to wait while parity spaces will be recovered?

Or any other ideas about recovering data from storage spaces?

Controlling Access to the Internet in Server 2012

Hi

We currently use WebMarshal to control access to the Internet; we've been using WebMarshal for about 7 years and I am very happy with it.

However due to the current "economic climate" I have been asked to reduce licensing spending wherever possible.  I was going to license the Forefront TMG but this is being discontinued by MS.

Does Server 2012 have anything that can control access to the Internet in a similar way that WebMarshal would?  I noted in some of the news articles that they are discontinuing much of the Forefront product line to avoid duplicating functionality in other product lines.

Many thanks

Task Manager and Resource Manager - bugs in RTM (zero CPU and freezes)

In Task Manager, in the Details tab, the System Idle Process CPU time seems broken. Two problems:

1. It doesn't start counting from zero until Task Manager is opened. All other processes start counting from zero at system startup time. Also System Idle Process did correctly start from zero at startup in Server 2008 R2.

2. It stops dead at zero CPU usage after approximately 7 minutes of CPU time (7:09 on a Hyper-V host with 8 processors, 7:08 on a VM with 8 virtaul processors). So it stops in under a minute with 8 processors.

The System Idle Process CPU usage and total CPU time are useful metrics to understand average CPU load on the system. They worked in Server 2008 R2, and seem broken in Server 2012 RC.

Hi,

Does anyone have any information on the availability of the Cisco Nexus 1000v virtual switch for Hyper-V. Is it available to download from Cisco yet? If not when will it be released? Are there any Beta programs etc?

I can download the 1000v for VmWare but cannot find any downloads for the Hyper-V version.

Why Can't I download it?

I am a student and I am enrolled in dreamspark. Dreamspark is now offering Windows Server 2012, so I am going to give it a shot. As you may know, when you get programs through dreamspark, it requires you to download them with Secure Download Manager. I have downloaded it multiple times, and none of them have been successful downloads. The first time I though it was a glitch, but now I'm positive it's screwed up. Secure Download Manager tells me that the download was unsuccessful because it "Couldn't Unpack The File".  And it also appears as a .sdc file instead of the .iso. This has been going on for a few days now. Is this a dreamspark issue or my issue? How do I fix this?

Hi all

It is not possible to make a system backup to an SMB-Share with EXT3 Filesystem (Qnap boxes etc.).
It was ending with error 0xC03A0005 because the new vhdx-format.

Thats why, I chosed an iSCSI target for the backup.

I haven't tried the restore from Recovery DVD at the moment. But I remembered that a restore from iSCSi is not possible in W2k8R2.

Thats why my question: Is a recovery from iSCSI  possible in W2k12?

Thanks for hints

About licensing of Windows server, CALs...

$

Hi!

I´m trying to get some answers regarding licensing. I have spoken to several persons that are licensing-partners with Microsoft but get diffrent answers and I can´t trust the answers that I get.

First of all I wonder if its OK to mix user and device CALs? If it´s OK, does that apply to all licenses thar require CALs, like server, TS, Exchange...?

Second I have heard that you can get a processor license and that way you don´t need any CALs. I know that this is true for SQL, but is it also valid for server, Exchange, TS and others?

I would very much appriciate an answer!

/Peter
