Hi all,
since Windows 2012 datacenter can host unlimited VMs, we planned to deploy VDI solutions for about 20 VMs for one managed pool.
Does it mean that we are entitled to use these VDI VMs without other licensings? What's the licensing difference between VDI access and
session based remote desktop access?
Thank you.

Hi, I've successfully setup a Direct access server 2012 with W8 client (Kerberos Authentication). Simple configuration: EDGE behind NAT with single Network. W8 client can access corporate ressources without any problem.
A would test access with OTP auhtentication on a Radius server (Cidway). The Radius serveur is a NPS w2k8 R2 with a Cidway plugin. I've successfully configure Direct Access with OTP authentication (CA, Certificate Template, ....) Operational Status --> all with green marks !
Now, W8 client are connecting to Direct Access server but cannot access ressources. There are lists in the remote client. The Workplace connexion on W8 indicate " connecting"
The problem is located when DA try to validate the Radius availibity with DAProbeUser. The NPS with Cidway always required an OTP, and wait on the OTP for DaProbuser......
Could we disable the Radius availibilty check? Have you documentation in similar deployment?
Thanks for your help

I am having windows server 2012 on server side, and windows xp (service pack 3) and Windows 7 on the client machines. Clients are connected to server in a workgroup environment. Recently i had added a new machine on the network, there is one user and administrator accounts on it. But when i try to access server from the user account it does not ask for the username and password, it directly view of all the folders which are shared, but i cannot access those folders Access Denied error comes at times of accessing those folders. But when i try to access server from Administrator account it ask for the username and password.
I want that when i try to access server from user account it ask for the username and password. I tried a lot but while accessing the server from user account it does not ask for username and password. please help me on this
We are using DFS-R to replicate data from multiple remote locations to a central site. While this is working fine for all 2008 R2 servers, it is not working for all 2012 servers.
We have the same situation everywhere: After creating the replication groups, it works for few weeks. Then it suddenly stops replicating without stating anything related in event logs. At this time, also backlog queries ("dfsrdiag backlog") do not work anymore but throw a "Failed to execute GetOutboundBacklogFileCount" error 0x80041002.
Recompiling the DFSR .MOF file and recreating the DFSR database (as suggested in other threads) did not help. Deleting and recreating the replication group seems to help for few weeks.
Does anyone have a similar experience, or an idea how to fix it?
Hello everyone....
I am having difficulty getting WSUS to transfer files from the Microsoft Update site and store them locally using W2012 RC. I am havingno problemsgetting the "list" of updates from the Microsoft Server.
Important Note: Our Company is using a proxy server which requires authentication.
To troubleshoot, I have configured two virtual machines (on the same host) to run WSUS; One is running W2008R2 with SP1, and the other is running W2012 RC. Both server's basic configuration are the same except for their IP address and these WSUS configuration settings:
The Proxy server information is entered on both machines and a Sync is requested. The results are:
It appears that the BITS service does not go to the proxy and is trying to get to the Microsoft Update site directly.
The folder permissions for the WSUS storage folder on both servers is identical. The accounts running the WSUS (Networ Service) and BITS (Local System) are also identical.
From what I can see, the BITS service on W2008R2 is using the proxy information I specified in the WSUS console, but the same is not true for the W2012 machine.
Any suggestions on how to over come this problem? Is there a possibility that when the WSUS service sents the BITS command it forgets to include the proxy settigns?
Hello and Good Day Microsoft Community....
I am having a weird issue while evaluating Windows 2012 Server's data deduplication abilities. I have a Windows 2012 Standard Server. C:\ drive is 60GB. I then add a disk, 225GB in size to the server. I format as NTFS, and enable data deduplication in the process. I leave the "Deduplicate files older than (in days)" setting at the default value of 5 days. In the deduplication schedule, I set the schedule type to "Enable Background optimization". I then copy about 2-4GB worth of data to the new volume. This is data I know should dedupe rather well. And then I wait, and wait, and wait.....and it looks as if dedupe never runs. I go to PowerShell and run "Get-DedupStatus" and it says 0 under the "InPolicyFiles" column. Now, the only way I can get the dedup function to do something is to change the "Dupe Files Older than" value to 0, and also run the powershell command "Start-DedupJob - Type Optimization -Volume E:" and then dudup starts working, and ultimately finds 659 InPolicy files and processes them all.
Now, I have tried changign the schedule from using backgroup optimization to "Enable Throughput optimization" and scheduling the dedup process, but I get the same result. The only thing that seems to work is to set it to dedup all files regardless of age, and to start dedup via the Powershell command. Has anyone else seen this with 2012 and deduplication? Anything I am overlooking?

We have one small office about 10 users and has one Windows 2012 datacenter hyper v server
host that includes one VM which is Windows 2008 R2 domain controller with file server.
We want to set up another Windows 2012 hyper-v host for DR solution at another location through
replication.
Can domain controller be set up for hyper v replication? will it work in case we need to switch
to another location?
Thank you.

While accessing "mstsc.exe" it throws the above error.Hi folks,
This topic has been covered fairly extensively here, however, it's been marked as resolved so I'm reluctant to continue to bump that thread. Suffice to say that nothing within the thread has resolved the issue for us.
Below is an explanation of our starting point and what we've tried.
Initially, we didn't know about KB2734608 as we'd naievely expected that the self-regulating nature of WSUS 3.0 would have meant it would have already applied an automatically approved self-update and inherently been ready for Server 2012 and Windows 8. Clearly that wasn't the case, so we've learnt a lesson there, however it may be important to note that we'd already approved the Silverlight update KB2668562.
What we noticed is already covered in the above linked Technet thread: the update was being discovered but failing the download with error 0x80246003. That lead to searching the interwebz and that in turn led to the above thread."Great", we thought, "we'll follow the KB instructions and be on our way". Well, not quite.
What we have:
What we tried:
That's probably a medium level of detail, but it should be enough to illustrate we've tried everything from the initially mentioned thread. So, now we're out of ideas.
We get that the 0x80246003 error means the client doesn't recognise the hash algorithm. What we don't know is what we can do about it in light of KB2734608 having no effect. For posterity, we even tried declining the Silverlight patch and then re-approving it on the off-chance that might recalculate the hash.
About the only other thing I can think of trying at the moment is manually applying the motherless GA hotfix that was released for Server 2012 and Windows 8 (KB2756872) on the off-chance that impacts the AU client.
With that in mind, if anyone has any client or server file versions I can check, that might prove useful.
If anyone else has any ideas, let me know and I'll check them out. In the meanwhile, I'm just going to keep muddling along and hoping that some kind of clarity comes into the picture.
Oh, one last thing, the whole dism /online /scanhealth didn't show anything up. Keeping in mind this was a fresh media build, that isn't particularly surprising.
Cheers,
Lain
We are dealing with some strange issues while analyzing IIS logs for our web sites. The problem is that I see many entries in the log files when the cookie information is logged as ellipsis, see the sample entry below:

as you can see the cookie information is shown as ellipsis. Is there any way to find out why this happens and to prevent this? We rely on cookie analysis to get the session id as well as other important data for our web analytics and missing such crucial piece of data is real problem for us.
Thank you for your help in advance,

Hi all,
Im having some troubles with deployen an image to a laptop.
I have installed everything and i have 2 images x86 and x64 (with driverpack of dell injected included the netwerkcard drivers)
When the laptop is pxe booting, it start loading the image form the server, then i see the windows loading icon.
After that i see the screen microsoft solution accelerator and nothing is coming up.
Then the laptops reboots and start over again.
I tried windows 7 and windoss 8, in bought architectures (x86 and x64)
i have also deployed 2 task sequences.
But everything the laptop is rebooting.
What am i doing wrong?
Good evening,
I have a freshly installed Windows Server 2012 Standard. I have the GUI installed, but nothing else other than the basics.
I am intending to run a custom TCP application server on this system and I need to install a security certificate. However, I am unable to import the .p12 or .pfx files I have from two different providers regardless of what method I try to use. If I just double click on the file in Windows Explorer I get the following message:
- Invalid Public Key Security Object File
- This file is invalid for use as the following: Personal Information Exchange.
If I try to import the file via the certificate manager I get this message:
- Certificate Import Wizard
- The file type is not recognizable. Select another file.
I am able to import the above all ok on any previous version of Windows Server, and also in Windows 8 or Windows 7.
I have the impression that by default some underlying feature is not installed that is required for this to work; but I have not been able to find any documentation on this, anyone else with the same problem, and browsing the complete list of features doesn't present anything that sounds like it should be installed for this to work.
Thank you very much for any help anyone can provide.
Can i downgrade my Window Server 2012 to Windows Server 2003 or R2.
Please let me know where i can find this information. Can you share a link or document regarding.
Regards,
Karthik

Hi All.
I have a question about setting up DA on a 2012 Server that has 2x NICs (LAN and DMZ).
The LAN NIC has an IP address of 192.168.1.24
The DMZ NIC has an IP address of 10.0.0.24 (Firewall is forwarding the public IP traffic to 10.0.0.24)
At first when I setup DA, I could not get the DA clients (all of which are Windows 7 Laptops) to see the DA server even though they were connected to the LAN (most of the Win7 clients are on a 192.168.80.x VLAN). The result was the Laptop clients Network Location switched to Public/Private and they were attempting to connect to the DA server as it they were external (which would fail because traffic can't go out the proxy, around and back in).
In troubleshooting the problem, we realised LAN connected clients (DA and non-DA enabled clients) could not PING the DA server internally. At this point, someone suggested adding a Default Gateway onto the internal LAN NIC of the DA server and this enabled PING internally - I wasn't entirely comfortable with this knowing the LAN NIC shouldn't also have a Default Gateway, however magically the DA clients were now able to PIN the DA server and immediately their Network Location switched back onto the Domain location.
(side note: Interestingly, I have another DA server implementation at a different site and the clients at that site also can't ping the internal LAN interface of their DA server and yet they don't have this problem.)
Now what we're seeing is intermittent/random DA client connection issues. Every now and then a DA client will come back to work from home, the user will try to connect to the corporate LAN (usually coming out of Sleep or Hybernation) and the clients network location won't switch onto the Domain profile. The odd thing is, whilst one client is having the problem, 10 other clients are working fine. Sometimes (but not always) a reboot of the system will fix it.
Can anyone point me in the direction of:
a) NIC configuration for a DA server with 2x NICs, one on the LAN and one behind a Firewall/NAT
b) any route entries required on the DA server when using 2x NICs and the internal LAN having multiple VLANs
c) any troubleshooting ideas?
Thanks
Ben
