I'm trying to wrap my head around the differences between a multidisk pool using mirroring and one using parity. From a storage point of view presumably 2 copy mirroring keeps a copy of each file on 2 disks and parity keeps a single copy plus parity info. From a resilience point of view as I see it either system can only survive the failure of a single disk so if I had a 5 disk pool and lost 2 disks my data would be unrecoverable with either system, is that correct or would I still be able to recover data from my failed mirrored drives? Does it simply come down to a disk space v performance choice then in choosing between the two and resilience isn't a factor?
Thanks
Alan
