Hi
I was planning buying a new file server (this is for private use, but running on heavy hardware whatsoever) when Server 2012 goes gold.
However, my existing file server is dying, and it looks if I have to advance this investment.
The plan, at first, was running a Areca 1882 24p controller in RAID6. But I've more or less concluded with that this ain't flexible enough ... I need disk pooling with RAID6-like redundancy. And I like windows (ZFS is probably an alternative, but I don't have the know-how ... yet). Still planning to use Areca 1882, but running the drives in pass through mode.
Storage spaces is apparently active in Server 2012 Release candidate. I guess that if I install Server 2012 RC now, and set up a storage space, I can reinstall the OS when 2012 goes gold and the storage space will be intact.
But. I like the sound of ReFS! ReFS seems to have to be activated via back doors. The question is, is the file system finished?
Can I install Server 2012 on a NTFS partition, format my storage space with ReFS and continue as nothing has happened (with a new OS install ... or upgrade???) when 2012 is released?
I need some insight and aspects on this.
Appreciate your help... :)
