I was just wondering in getting familiarized with server 2012:
Is there a replacement for the folder-share-concept implemented in server 2012? Something else, something clever?
I have shared a couple folders with different permissions and wanted to change those permissions. Unfortuantly I couldn't remeber which folders in my structure I did share....well, now comes the treat: of course the is no overlay-icon (I expected so much), but there is also no status-information in the explorer-bar anymore. The only way is to rightlcick everysingle folder and search for the share.
OK, I thought, that must be my mistake, probably there is a brandnew replacement for the folder-administration somewhere. Well, now it get's complicated....I knew from a couple of MS Server-OS that there is a file/folder/share-administration, and I know where it is in old-fashionied menu-structure, but I have no idea how it is called. Furthermore I often work with english oder german language-versions, the icon is always in the same spot, but now with the new start-screen I have a problem.
It's not on the startscreen.
If I go to all applications I have 300 icons there, in a flat hierarchy. I can read only the first 15 characters or so per icon, and half of the icons have a small computer on it.
I have no idea how the file/folder/share-administration-thingy is called. The search function yields nothing at all for my first 10 guesses.
Now that's cute.
Finally I find an icon called "Comp...." the rest is hidden, if I click on that I get the file/folder/share-administration, looking exactly like in the old versions.
Oddly enough the file/folder/share-administration is also suffering from the unreadably-syndrom. The columns are very small, so its impossible to read the folderpath. Again I have no clue, which share is which (To make it worse, System-center cluttered my sharelist with names liske SMSSIG$, SMS_SITE, SMS_A01,....).
I remember that sometimes I used the net share commmand, well done! At least this is still there. Well, it's not usefull either, the cmd-windows has a small size, and I can't read the foldernames, they are wrapped over the screen border. Needless to say that copy/paste won't work, because you can't mark a filename beeing wrapped.
My main question is: what am I doing wrong? I have 3 Full HD flatscreens connected to my workstation, and I can't read neither the start-screen nor the cmd-line nor the file/folder/share-administration. There must be a way to increase the readability, isn't there?
