linux computers not mapping network drive using server 2012

I am using win server 2012 as my main production (file) server.  I have 4 to 5 caldera (linux) computers that are trying to connect to my server and access the proper folders.  Currently they access these same folders on a 2008 server with no problem.  So I believe that the problem exists on the 2012 server.  I have set up local users on the 2012 server for the linux machines to access.  I know that I am missing something on the server end,  my windows server 2008 allows access without any problems.  I have tried to compare the two to see if I have missed a step.  Both are setup as file server's, both have the same local users, with same type of permissions.  The Linux machines see the new server but cannot access the folders. Any suggestions?  Thanks for the help.

here is the mount line that is used on my linux machines, this is placed in the /etc/fstab file:

//server/folder /home/username/folder cifs username=username,password=password,_netdev,uid=username 0 0

Like I said, this works with the 2008 server, but is not working with the 2012 server
