We do some large data transfers and so ODX is of great interest to me.
We have some P10000 3PARs that we use to host our data and I've stood up a Windows 2012 server on an HP blade with a couple of LUNs fibre-presented to it as NTFS-formatted disks. A couple of data moves on the 2012 server today showed no improvement, in terms
of times or throughput when compared to a Windows 2008 machine with a similar setup so I'm certain it's not performing an offload.
The P10000 are currently using Inform 3.1.1 Update 1.
Has anyone succeeded in using Windows 2012 offloads? I'm sure it's possible with the 3PARs; Calvin Zito demos it in an Hp blog but I just can't get it to work.
I ran an fltmc command on the Windows 2012 machine and I only see 2 filters loaded:luafv for the c:\ drive and npsvctrig for \Device\named Pipes.
Should I see any filters loaded for my 3PAR luns, appearing as volumes X:\ and Y:\ in Windows?. Running the Get-OffloadDataTransferSetting | Get-StorageSubSystem powershell cmdlet likewise shows nothing but I'm not sure if it should because I noted that
it doesn't show SMI-S storage subsystems which I think the P10000 would be.
My test involves a simple copy using explorer and also robocopy of a 4GB ISO and 40GB IMG file from Lun X to Lun Y Any guidance would be gratefully received. At the moment I'm left wondering whether I should be seeing a filter loaded for the 3PAR disks but
have been unable to find anything to confirm or deny it. There may be something I haven't done in Windows 2012 but I was under the impression there was nothing to set up.
I'm sure I've met the other criteria; the disks are NTFS formatted, basic GPUID partitions, there is no compression or encryption
Many thanks for any advice you can give; I'm stumped! Darren
I have a strange problem on several Windows Server 2012 VMs. RDS performance on some VMs is terrible on the LAN. By terrible I mean resizing or moving a window can take several seconds. However, performance is 100% perfect when opening a direct console to the same VM. In this case I'm using vSphere 5.0. So the VM is not having performance problems, just the RDS screen refresh. This is happening in two different environments (production at work and a home lab). Happens with both Windows 7 and Windows 8 RDS clients.
Ideas?

I created a virtual disk with parity layout in a storage pool, filled it with data, but I am experiencing strange problems with videofiles (sometimes they don't play).
Now I discovered the problem does not occur on another virtual disk with simple layout, so I am transferring my files to this disk. I know it's not protected but that's no problem because I have a backup.
Copied a lot of files to the "simple" disk Z, and deleted them on my "parity" disk U.
But to my horror the "free'd" space is NOT changing the Allocated capacity on the virtual parity disk U, and so, the storage pool also the "Free space" still stay's the same. In fact, the free space on the total storage pool is now going less and less and that's not logical when TRANSFERRING files.
On the volume U itself you can clearly see that the total Used space is way less. The 3,03 TB is in fact the MAXIMUM. It never went under this value but in reality it's 1,74TB now....I deleted files going from 3,03 to 1,74 in reality but the space on the virtual disk stays the same.
This is stupid. How can I release this space???
Also a restart didn't help but well you never know.
I have been reading alot of the messages here, including to adding 2 SSD drives out of the 8 allowed for parity as journals, and that seems to help. I want to know what the current opinion is, as i am going to rebuild my lab this weekend in RTM, and I want to see what has worked best for everyone. If I have to, I may run both parity for my data shares, and raid 10 for my VM's.
I myself have tested storage spaces on an old netapp ds14mk2 shelf with 300gb FC drivers hooked up, with a 2GB FC connection to the server. Using storage spaces, i created 4 SS Mirrored disks, then striped them in disk managment to create a software raid 10 array. I got about 90 MB writes in ATTO at 128 line, and around 190 reads as well. Not sure what to think there, even though FC disks are older, i think they can do better then that. I had to enable caching on all of the physical disks, as well as the storage space disks in device manager.
There appears to be a bug in the GUI. When shutting down, under the list of reasons, it shows:

It is stated: From Windows PowerShell run the following commands:
certutil -setreg CA\CRLPublicationURLs "1:C:\Windows\system32\CertSrv\CertEnroll\%3%8.crl\n2:http://www.contoso.com/pki/%3%8.crl" certutil –setreg CA\CACertPublicationURLs "2:http://www.contoso.com/pki/%1_%3%4.crt" restart–service certsvc
However, the powershell
restart–service certsvc
Sends back the following error:
restart–service : The term 'restart–service' is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet, function, script file, or operable program. Check the spelling of the name, or if a path was included, verify that the path is correct and try again. At line:1 char:1 + restart–service certsvc + ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~+ CategoryInfo : ObjectNotFound: (restart–service:String) [], CommandNotFoundException + FullyQualifiedErrorId : CommandNotFoundException
Not sure if the article forgot to mention a commandlet that needs loading or something. Guide is designed for Windows Server 2012 and I was following it step-by-step.

When I create a network share in VMware 9.0.1, it appears if I open a folder. I can click it and interact with the files inside the folder. When I go into powershell, run as admin, and type
cd z:
z:
cd z:\
z:\
They all give me the error:
cd : Cannot find drive. A drive with the name 'z' does not exist. At line:1 char:1+ cd z:+ ~~~~~+ CategoryInfo : ObjectNotFound: (z:String) [Set-Location], DriveNotFoundExceptio+ FullyQualifiedErrorId : DriveNotFound,Microsoft.PowerShell.Commands.SetLocationCommand
However, I am staring at an open folder of Z: . Restarting Powershell does not fix this issue.

Hi there! So I've had this thread over at the SQL Server forums for a couple of days but due to my own research it seems to be an issue that is more Windows Server 2012 related and SQL is secondary to the issue. Was hoping some Windows Server experts could take a look at my thread and perhaps lend some advice or guidance that might point me in the right direction, here's the link!
Thanks in advance for any help you can give!
If there is any additional information you would like, please ask!
I'm running Server 2012 Core edition, when trying to install basic GUI management tools using powershell and the below command, the installation hangs at 68%..

Any ideas?

We have 2012 Server Standard running in Eval, so we ordered the license sticker, but we received the sticker thats says :
Windows Server 2012Std Add Lic No Key
What can we do ?
Hi
We have installed and 2 Server 2012 servers to a costumer, 1 TS and 1 DC/Print server.
The DC/Print server, just won't print to any network printers, but locally installed printers on the TS will.
I found this thread: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserver8setup/thread/b4ef340d-c231-4421-bc2e-af855d1d47a1
And just need to get confirmation as to whether it is correct that Win 2012 don't allow DC and Print on the same server?
Or if it is supposed to work, the what could be the problem?
I have checked with ProMon and TCPView and the server never tries to send any network related data to the printer.
Regards Lars.
Many instances of Event 5858 from WMI-Activity are appearing in the Microsoft-Windows-WMI-Activity/Operational log.
An example of the event message text is "Id = {BA4361BF-423A-0001-1284-43BA3A42CD01}; ClientMachine = SERVER1; User = SERVER\bnf1; ClientProcessId = 928; Component = Unknown; Operation = Start IWbemServices::ExecQuery - root\cimv2 : SELECT * FROM Win32_ComputerSystem; ResultCode = 0x80041032; PossibleCause = Unknown
Is there a solution or a workaround?
Thanks.
Hi,
I have installed Windows Server 2012 trial Version, and this shows correct info regarding how many days its left for trial.
But I have installed several vm`s inside Hyper-V on this host, and these Windows Server 2012 trial Versions shows much less, for example one vm show 10 days left, why is this happening? I have check the clock, and its the same as the host.

VMware Workstation 9.0.1 build-894247 Server 2012 build 9200 all updates installed IGB memory allocated 1 AMD 3GHz CPU AD CS is the only role installed
I am having issues running Server 2012 in VMware workstation. All updated to latest release. There are window anomalies. Under certain instances, for example installing AD CS, after feature installation and during configuration, if the computer is not restarted first, which the user is not prompted to do, the configuration starts flashing black and white constantly and becomes unresponsive. Between each white and black window, the title flashes back and forth from the words "not responding" and the windows regular text. After a couple minutes of this, Windows force closes this window and the computer requires a restart to function normally. Upon restart, the configuration can be performed normally. I have experienced this same issue with other configuration after installation without restart attempts.
